FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I meet the puppies and their parents?
We are very proud of all of our dogs and we would love the chance to show them off. You can meet any of our available puppies and any of our adult dogs. You can also meet Takoda if you would like, she may not be AKC or even a pure bred but we love her just as much! Because we only own one male dog at this time, in some cases meeting the father dog is not feasible. We do always have pictures of the sire we have used.
What happens if I can no longer keep or care for my puppy?
If at any point in your puppies life you are unable to care for him or her we will gladly take them back into our home. We ask that you never give the puppy away, sell the puppy, or place it in a shelter. This means from 8 weeks old to 20 years old! Please call us first!
Will my puppy have it's shots or a health certificate?
ALL puppies will receive their shots from a licensed veterinarian. You will get these records when your puppy leaves our home. Some vets do NOT accept breeder records, so we will save you the hassle and added expense by having an experienced professional examine your puppy. All traveling puppies will have a health certificate issued from a veterinarian. This certificate is good for 7 days from the puppy leaving our home.
Are Shih Tzu dogs good with children or other pets?
Shih Tzu puppies are very good with families with small children. Shih Tzus are also known for being very friendly to other animals. Shih Tzu puppies also make good pets for people living in apartments and condominiums, where space is limited.
Are Maltese dogs good with children or other pets?
The Maltese are also wonderful with humans and pets alike. Maltese do well in apartments and condominiums.

How big will my puppy be?
Puppies under 2 lbs at 8 weeks are very tiny. The more under 2 lbs they are, the tinier they will be full grown. No one can tell you 100% of the time, with 100% accuracy, the EXACT weight of your puppy once fully grown. We can however come close. We do this by looking at the weight of the grandparents, the parents adult sizes and the weight of the puppy over the first few weeks. Please keep in mind the special needs of the very small puppies. You may WANT the largest puppy in the litter. Having a fully grown adult who is 2-4 lbs is indeed cute but it is also very important to know that your tiny dog will always need your help! They need your help to jump on your bed. They need help to get in your lap. They can be seriously injured in a fall from your living room chair or by a cocker spaniel at the park who only wanted to play. Please think about these things BEFORE you take on one of our smaller puppies.

Do Shih Tzu and Maltese breeds shed much?
No, both breeds are non-shedding AND hypoallergenic.

Is there anything special I should know about the care of my puppy?
Puppies will take time and care in grooming. You will need to brush your puppies hair each day. By 6 months of age your Shih-Tzu puppy will have a very fluffy coat that needs 10-15 minuets each day and a bath each week. If not cut your puppy's adult coat will touch the floor. If you do not have the time or do not like the floor length coat, these dogs are adorable in a short, even shaved coats. Yorkie puppies and adults have a single layer thin coat. It will be very long if not cut. Yorkies are also adorable in short coats. Remember, Painful mats can develop in as little as a few days if the coat is not brushed. This HURTS! So remember to groom your baby. Great care should be taken when letting a child hold a toy breed puppy. They are small and fragile. If dropped they can be seriously injured. Toy breeds have tiny teeth, it is best to use a dog food made for the tiny toy breeds and dog bones to whiten and clean the teeth. Large kibble is easy to choke on and also hard for them to chew and promotes swallowing food whole. I have found that the food for toy breeds is wonderful for my babies. Your local pet store will also carry tiny bones for treats.
